Microsoft to Stop the Support for Windows XP 

They had said it before, and now they remind again. Loyalists to one of Microsoft’s many long-running OS’ and Office, Windows XP and Office 2003, now have time until April 8, 2014 to make the shift to the latest versions of the OS and Office (Windows 7 and Office 2010), before the older ones go obsolete. In an official blog post, Microsoft have revealed that after the above mentioned date they would end their support for both Windows XP and Office 2003, essentially revealing that they would stop doling out updates to them. There will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.. The post states that users with PCs running Windows XP and Office 2003, should see this 2-year countdown as an ideal time to make the shift to the latest versions of the OS and Office software. It adds that although both Windows XP and Office 2003 made for great technology jumps for their time, changing times prompted the Redmond-based company to dole out successive versions; attempting to get better each time with both their OS, as well as Office.

The post further adds, "Technology continues to evolve and so do people’s needs and expectations. 

Modern users demand technologies that fit their personal work style and allow them to stay productive anywhere anytime, while businesses have an ever increasing need to protect data and ensure security, compliance and manageability. It is in a company’s – and its employees’ – best interest to take advantage of the modern Windows and Office software that is designed with these needs in mind." Debuting in 2011, Windows XP is currently on Extended support, since the end of its Mainstream Support on April 14, 2009. An extended support on Windows XP will allow users to receive security updates. However, in the absence of a commercial support contract, users will be asked for necessary bug fixes and other patches.

Reports also confirm that yesterday saw the end of the Mainstream support for yet another of Microsoft's OS', albeit not as successful, Windows Vista. It has now entered into its secondary Extended support, which ends in 2017, post which, Vista too will be a thing of the past.  Reports further inform that organizations still using the older versions of the OS, should start their migration to a modern PC. It adds that going by the customer deployment data in the past, the average enterprise deployment can take 18 to 32 months from business case through full deployment. Hence, if organizations need to see to it that they remain on supported versions of Windows and Office, then the time to begin planning and application testing is now, before the end of support. The company also advises the shift to the newer OS, as an attempt to keep one's organizations away from security risks, that comes along with using an OS, beyond its end support date. These include, security and compliance risks, lack of independent software vendor (ISV) and hardware manufacturers support, among other things.

Google launched a massive redesign of Google+ in recent past. The reaction to this new interface for the company’s fledgling social network have been generally positively thought, but most users are somewhat confused about why there is suddenly so much whitespace on the site. Indeed, the whitespace hashtag is currently trending on the site and it’s probably the most discussed “feature” of the new design. I think there is a reason behind this madness, though.

It was the Inspiration for Google+

What Google’s Vic Gundotra didn’t talk about when he announced the changes this morning was the fact that Google has now also switched to a responsive web design for Google+. Instead of a traditional fixed-width design, responsive design adapts to the size of your browser window. So while your Facebook page always looks the same, no matter whether you’ve maximized your browser window or not, the new Google+ design actually changes as you re-size your browser window. Right now, Google isn’t doing much with this capability, but it definitely built this redesign around this idea.

To see this in action, just head over to Google+ and re-size your browser. If your window is big enough, your Google Chat buddy list will either appear on the right side of the screen or, as you make the browser smaller, show up as a collapsed menu in the bottom right side of the window.

In a short hangout earlier this morning, Vic Gundotra pointed out that Google is obviously quite aware of the whitespace. He also said that Google isn’t planning to use the space for advertising, but wouldn’t say more about it.

What Google will do with this space is anybody’s guess. As we’re moving to bigger and wider screens, though (which are actually rather suboptimal for the kind of news feeds that are at the center of services like Google+, Facebook and Twitter), it only makes sense for Google to experiment with wider layouts as well and to figure out how to best use them.

Until it actually does something with all of this newfound space, though, you can install this Chrome plugin to remove the whitespace for the time being.

Create a Secret Partition for your USB Pen drive

How to create a partition for an USB Pen Drive !


Actually there is no such way by which we can initially make any partition in our USB drives. As we know they are the removable drives, which are actually temporary drives. To do this we need to trick up the Operating System by making the PC recognize it as a permanent drive. In this article I will be demonstrating just the same with the help of which we will be able to make a partition or two for our USBs. Only the first partition will be visible, and the other partitions will not show up on any other PC, but your own.

Step 1: Plug in your pen drive into your PC’s USB port. Then right-click on ‘My Computer’ and click on ‘Manage’ in the context menu. Click on ‘Device Manager’ present on the left pane. This will show all the hardware devices connected to your PC right at that time. Now, on the right pane, scroll down to ‘Disk Drives’ and you should see your pen drive connected here. Right-click on the pen drive and select ‘Properties’.

Step 2: In the properties window that you have  just opened, click on the ‘Details’ tab. From the scroll down menu under ‘Property’, choose ‘Device Instance Path’. You should see a string of characters highlighted in the ‘Value’ window below, which should read something like ‘USBSTORDISK&VEN_&PROD…..’ Right-click on this value and select ‘Copy’. Now close all the windows without saving changes.

Step 3: Now open the folder that you uncompressed after downloading the universal USB flash drive driver. In this folder, find and open the file named ‘cfadisk.inf’ in ‘Notepad’ or any test editor you prefer (Notepad++ is ideal to be used here’ (download from ‘notepad-plus-plus.org’).

6 Steps to be a HACKER !

There had been a community, a shared culture of expert programmers and networking wizards who used to  trace its history back within the decades to the first networked computer ever and the earlies “ARPAnet” . Those members of the community originated with the term “HACKER”.

Steps one Should follow to become a successful HACKER !

1) Think Like a HACKER 

 Follow the mindset of a HACKER : Hackers solve problems and build things, and they believe in freedom and voluntary mutual help. To be accepted as a hacker, you have to behave as though you have this kind of attitude yourself. And to behave as though you have the attitude, you have to really believe the attitude. So, if you want to be a hacker, repeat the following things until you believe them:

2) Learn to Program

Learn Programming Languages: The best way to learn is to read some stuff written by masters of the form, write some things yourself, read a lot more, write a little more, read a lot more, write some more, and repeat until your writing begins to develop the kind of strength and economy you see in your models. To be a real hacker, however, you need to get to the point where you can learn a new language in days by relating what's in the manual to what you already know. This means you should learn several very different languages. Besides being the most important hacking languages, the following represent very different approaches to programming, and each will educate you in valuable ways.

3) Get known to Unix

Unix is must : Get one of the open-source Unixes and learn to use and run it. Unix is the operating system of the Internet. While you can learn to use the Internet without knowing Unix, you can't be an Internet hacker without understanding Unix. For this reason, the hacker culture today is pretty strongly Unix-centered. So, bring up a Unix (like Linux but there are other ways and yes, you can run both Linux and Microsoft Windows on the same machine). Learn it. Run it. Tinker with it. Talk to the Internet with it. Read the code. Modify the code.

4) HTML most important

Don't consider HTML as very basic language : Most of the things the hacker culture has built do their work out of sight, helping run factories and offices and universities without any obvious impact on how non-hackers live. The Web is the one big exception, the huge shiny hacker toy that even politicians admit has changed the world. For this reason alone (and a lot of other good ones as well) you need to learn how to work the Web. This doesn't just mean learning how to drive a browser (anyone can do that), but learning how to write HTML, the Web's markup language. If you don't know how to program, writing HTML will teach you some mental habits that will help you learn. So build a home page. Try to stick to XHTML, which is a cleaner language than classic HTML.

5) Learn English

This might sound pretty much easy stuff :  English is the working language of the hacker culture and the Internet, and you will need to know it to function in the hacker community. Translations of technical books written in English are often unsatisfactory (when they get done at all). Being a native English-speaker does not guarantee that you have language skills good enough to function as a hacker. If your writing is semi-literate, ungrammatical, and riddled with misspellings, many hackers will tend to ignore you. While sloppy writing does not invariably mean sloppy thinking, the correlation is strong. If you can't yet write competently, learn to.

6) Earn a Hacker's Respect

Have a Hacker's attitude: Like most cultures without a money economy, hackerdom runs on reputation. You're trying to solve interesting problems, but how interesting they are, and whether your solutions are really good, is something that only your technical peers or superiors are normally equipped to judge. This is why you aren't really a hacker until other hackers consistently call you one. Specifically, hackerdom is what anthropologists call a gift culture. You gain status and reputation in it not by dominating other people, nor by being beautiful, nor by having things other people want, but rather by giving things away: your time, your creativity, and the results of your skill.
